On March 1, 2019, I had a stroke. I am a young, fit, mother of three, who exercises every day and had no risk factors or family history of stroke. Thankfully we recognized the symptoms immediately and we acted fast to get me the help that I needed.

On March 7, 2009, I had a major stroke, known as a traumatic intracranial hemorrhage, or bleeding in my brain. The road to recovery has spanned the past 10 years, and while I’ve had some great medical care, rehab and caregiver support, there are still many things I had to learn for myself.
Stroke has been a part of my day to day life for 22 years, which adds up to more than half of my life. I have gotten to the point that I barely remember life without stroke.
Last month, our team of 49 runners tackled the Boston Marathon – or as we like to call it – the Super Bowl of Marathons. We are incredibly proud of this team and have appreciated all of the support we have received throughout our journey to Boston this year.
