‘Golf with Heart’ Scramble Raises More Than $5,000 for Tedy’s Team
Runner Story
Auction winners start 18-hole round with Tedy.
Kim has raised over $13,000 in total for this year’s Trifecta team and continues to raise awareness of stroke and its warning signs.
Tedy’s Team runner, Kim Sanger, hosted a golf scramble last summer as part of her fundraising efforts as a Trifecta team member. Kim ran with the team at the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon in November, and is now training for April’s Boston Marathon.
The August 24th event, which was held at Shaker Hills Country Club in Harvard, Mass., featured an 18-hole golf scramble, followed by lunch and a silent auction. Prior to the 8am start, Kim auctioned off the opportunity to golf with Tedy Bruschi during the scramble. Thanks to the support of 40 golfers and additional attendees, Kim was able to raise more than $5,000 for Tedy’s Team.
Kim joined Tedy’s Team in 2016 to run in memory of her father – and stroke hero – who suffered two strokes. “He was always in my corner and loved me unconditionally,” Kim said.
At 64 years young, Kim’s father suffered his first stroke. Thankfully, he recovered about 95 percent with some minor mobility issues. A few years later, he suffered a second stroke that left him paralyzed on the left side, and confined him to a full-time nursing facility. He lived out the remainder of his life at that facility.
“That second stroke took so much. He was unable to do many of the things he really enjoyed in life, like working with his hands, spending time with his friends and playing card games,” explained Kim. “Being able to run the Marathon to honor my father this year means the world to me.”
